Day 2 - Grace of Forgiveness

14 Days of Prayer and Fasting
Grace of Forgiveness
Tuesday – Day 2

Thought for Today:

Forgiveness, what a powerful word. To be forgiven is such a freeing feeling. We are all guilty, we have all gone astray, and we all deserve the punishment that God’s law requires. Yet, in His goodness, God does not give us what we deserve; instead, He gives us what we need most—forgiveness.

We cannot earn, pay for, or negotiate for forgiveness; we receive it by faith when we go to Jesus and ask for it. It is undeserved, unmerited, and freely given. God’s love is shown in His willingness and mercy to forgive freely. We never need to worry if we are loved; we don’t have to perform to be forgiven. All we need to do is look at the Cross of Christ and see what He did so that we could experience forgiveness, which clears up any confusion about whether we are loved or not.

Go to the Cross and ask the thief who was hanging next to Jesus. He will tell you, “I deserve hanging here. Jesus doesn’t…” Then he’ll say simple words from a desperate heart: “Lord, remember me when you come into Your kingdom…” Then Jesus gives the greatest affirmation in the most hopeless of moments: “Today, you will be with me in Paradise…” Not you messed up, you haven’t prayed enough, paid enough, helped enough, served enough, groveled enough, begged enough, or whatever you think you haven’t done enough of! Jesus says, “I have done enough for you; I am more than enough!”

The grace of forgiveness. What a God we serve! What a gift we have received! Just ask.

Verses to Pray and Meditate on:

We believe that we are all saved the same way, by the undeserved grace of the Lord Jesus.”
Acts 15:11 (NLT)

But there is a great difference between Adam’s sin and God’s gracious gift. For the sin of this one man, Adam, brought death to many. But even greater is God’s wonderful grace and his gift of forgiveness to many through this other man, Jesus Christ. And the result of God’s gracious gift is very different from the result of that one man’s sin. For Adam’s sin led to condemnation, but God’s free gift leads to our being made right with God, even though we are guilty of many sins.
Romans 5:15-16 (NLT)

But even though we were dead in our sins God, who is rich in mercy, because of the great love he had for us, gave us life together with Christ—it is, remember, by grace and not by achievement that you are saved—and has lifted us right out of the old life to take our place with him in Christ in the Heavens. Thus he shows for all time the tremendous generosity of the grace and kindness he has expressed towards us in Christ Jesus. It was nothing you could or did achieve—it was God’s gift to you. No one can pride himself upon earning the love of God. The fact is that what we are we owe to the hand of God upon us. We are born afresh in Christ, and born to do those good deeds which God planned for us to do.
Ephesians 2:4-10 (J.B. Phillips)

Prayer Focus:
  • Thank the Lord for His undeserved grace that we have received, not because we are good but because He is good.
  • Pray and bring your life before the Lord, and let the Holy Spirit bring the reality of God’s forgiveness to your mind and heart.
  • Ask the Lord to help all of us see what it means to be forgiven by grace.
  • Ask the Holy Spirit to help us rely on the fact that there is no condemnation for us in Christ Jesus and that we trust His Word over our feelings.
  • Ask the Holy Spirit to remove any feelings of guilt and condemnation from our hearts.
  • Take a moment to celebrate the fact that we have been set free and our freedom is brought about by the undeserved grace of God, not the perfect behavior of man.
  • Thank the Lord for His freedom in all our lives! Make it a shout of praise!
