Day 3 - Grace That Empowers
14 Days of Prayer and Fasting
Grace That Empowers
Wednesday – Day 3
Thought for Today:
If you have been around church circles, I am sure that you have heard the acronym for ‘grace’— ‘God’s Riches At Christ’s Expense.’ It is good, but grace is not just about forgiveness; it is also about empowerment. My late father-in-law, Pastor Jim Cobrae, taught us many years ago at The Rock Church and World Outreach Center that grace is: “God’s sovereign divine ability to get the job done on my behalf when I can’t do it!”
I can still hear his voice echo in my ear as he would give a slight chuckle after he said it, as if the Holy Spirit let him in on something beautiful! How true that is! When grace steps in, inadequacy leaves the building. When grace walks through the door, it brings with it all we need, and will ever need. Grace is empowering. Grace does in me and through me what I could never do for myself. Our problem is that we are relying on everything else but the grace of God. Grace enables us to do what we have told ourselves is impossible.
It is grace that makes the impossible possible, and when we rely on God's grace, it takes ordinary people and makes them extraordinary. It makes cowards brave, weaklings strong, and fearful people courageous. It turns persecutors into allies, mockers into proclaimers of the gospel, and brings about God’s miraculous intervention into people’s lives through ordinary Christ followers.
It is grace that makes it possible, and grace brings to bear God’s power in our lives.
Verses to Pray and Meditate on:
Stephen, a man full of God’s grace and power, performed amazing miracles and signs among the people.
Acts 6:8 (NLT)
But the Jews who refused to believe stirred up the other Gentiles and poisoned their minds against the brothers. So Paul and Barnabas spent considerable time there, speaking boldly for the Lord, who confirmed the message of his grace by enabling them to perform signs and wonders.
Acts 14:2-3 (NIV)
I am fully convinced, my dear brothers and sisters, that you are full of goodness. You know these things so well you can teach each other all about them. Even so, I have been bold enough to write about some of these points, knowing that all you need is this reminder. For by God’s grace, I am a special messenger from Christ Jesus to you Gentiles. I bring you the Good News so that I might present you as an acceptable offering to God, made holy by the Holy Spirit.
Romans 15:14-16 (NLT)

Prayer Focus:
- Thank the Lord for His empowering grace in your life and in the lives of your fellow believers.
- In what area do you need God’s grace to bring empowerment? Ask the Holy Spirit to empower you in that arena.
- Pray that the church will be filled with grace carriers, just like Stephen, Paul, and Barnabus.
- Ask the Lord to make you a grace carrier and pray for a spirit of obedience.
- Pray that in these last days the church will represent Jesus well, that we would preach God’s Word with great confidence, and that the Holy Spirit will confirm the message we preach.
- Pray for a fresh wave of God’s glory to fill us so that we may see the glory of the Lord fill the earth!
