Day 5 - Grace For Tough Days
14 Days of Prayer and Fasting
Grace For Tough Days
Friday – Day 5
Thought for Today:
Tough days are unavoidable; difficult days don't have to be believed for. They happen automatically because we live in a broken world marred by sin, death, and decay. That’s simply a fact of human existence: in this world, we will face trouble. Days of sorrow and sadness are real, and pain is guaranteed. If you have lived any amount of time on this planet, you have not only seen others' pain but also experienced it yourself.
However, before you head into the hills and valleys of despair, there is not just good news, but the best news. God gives us grace for difficult days. God is not aloof when we hurt. He is not absent or disinterested. Jesus understands our weaknesses and our pain because he stepped into our human experience and suffered not only with us but ultimately for us. Where is God when you hurt? Right by your side!
God provides grace in two ways when we face difficulties. He empowers us to withstand the pressures that come with challenges, meaning He gives us grace to endure the pain. He aids us in navigating sorrow and sadness, filling our hearts with hope and perseverance. Additionally, He sometimes grants us the grace to avoid certain difficulties. He delivers us through grace by uplifting us during the challenge and, at times, by rescuing us from it.
I love it when God delivers me from pain, but God’s grace is just as evident when I have to endure it. God’s grace is not diminished during the process; in His sovereignty, He decides. Still, His grace is always present. That should give us great comfort; the more we suffer, the more God’s grace is poured out. The evidence of that grace is that through Jesus, we are comforted, and that comfort enables us to comfort others when they face life’s difficulties.
All my human reasoning, bargaining, or even telling God what to do and how to deliver me does not change the fact that He is present and ready to pour out His grace in my life. Don’t let the enemy of your faith lie to you about your experience. Just because you face challenges does not mean God has forgotten you or is somehow not close to you. He is ever-present, always ready to pour grace into every situation in our lives.
Let Him pour grace into your pain today! Stop relying on your ability and start trusting in His grace. Stop saying: “If it is to be, it’s up to me.” Start saying: “I am fully confident that the God of the universe knows every detail of my life, and I am relying on His grace to carry or deliver me, but whatever God decides, His grace is enough for me!”
Verses to Pray and Meditate on:
“But now we have been given a brief moment of grace, for the Lord our God has allowed a few of us to survive as a remnant. He has given us security in this holy place. Our God has brightened our eyes and granted us some relief from our slavery.
Ezra 9:8 (NLT)
May God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give you grace and peace. All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us. For the more we suffer for Christ, the more God will shower us with his comfort through Christ. Even when we are weighed down with troubles, it is for your comfort and salvation! For when we ourselves are comforted, we will certainly comfort you. Then you can patiently endure the same things we suffer. We are confident that as you share in our sufferings, you will also share in the comfort God gives us. We think you ought to know, dear brothers and sisters, about the trouble we went through in the province of Asia. We were crushed and overwhelmed beyond our ability to endure, and we thought we would never live through it. In fact, we expected to die. But as a result, we stopped relying on ourselves and learned to rely only on God, who raises the dead. And he did rescue us from mortal danger, and he will rescue us again. We have placed our confidence in him, and he will continue to rescue us. And you are helping us by praying for us. Then many people will give thanks because God has graciously answered so many prayers for our safety.
2 Corinthians 1:2-11 (NLT)

Prayer Focus:
- Pray for your fellow believers who are hurting.
- Ask the Holy Spirit to help you recognize the needs of others and be an encouragement to them, both in comfort and faith.
- Pray for wisdom to comfort those in need, and ask for grace to sustain you through difficult days in your own life.
- Refuse to believe the enemy's lies about your Heavenly Father’s character. Just because you are hurting does not mean God is absent. Thank the Lord out loud that He is the God of all comfort, let thanksgiving flood your heart and express it through your lips!
- Pray: “Holy Spirit, pour out Your comfort over those who need it. Pour out Your grace over those who have to endure it. Pour out Your goodness when it is hard to understand. In Jesus’ Name! I pray, amen.”
- Take a moment to be still and sense how close He truly is to the brokenhearted.
