Day 12 - Grace to Endure

14 Days of Prayer and Fasting
Grace to Endure
Friday – Day 12

Thought for Today:

Regarding my spiritual walk with the Lord, I want to go all the way. I want to stay faithful until the end. One of the many wonderful things about being in a relationship with the Lord is that He gives us the strength to endure until the end. We don’t have to panic or be afraid that what we started won’t be finished, because of the grace to endure.

The grace to endure is poured into our lives through God’s abundant kindness, which is evident in what Jesus has done for us. We are united with Christ; we were raised with Him and are seated with Him in heavenly places. Because Jesus endured the cross, despised the shame, and took His place of authority, we are now seated with Him. As Christ followers, we look up because our help comes from the Lord, and we look down because we are seated with Him in the heavenly realm.

We no longer base our lives on our past, but on the perspective of where we are headed. In the ages to come, we will serve as examples and trophies of what God's grace has accomplished. The Father will be able to look at us and point out how His incredible grace has transformed our lives forever. The grace to endure is not simply about barely surviving until we die or waiting until Jesus returns. The grace of endurance is rooted entirely in God’s eternal plan of salvation. It is the hope of Christ that anchors the soul to the reality of the grace that saved us and completely changed our lives.

Just like an endurance runner, while running their race, picturing themselves crossing the finish line, they paint the picture of finishing even as their lungs burn, their legs cramp, and everything hurts. They keep pushing, pressing forward toward the finish line. In the same way, God’s grace fills us with hope and endurance. We hold onto the eternal reality of our Heavenly Father’s kingdom made manifest on this earth. We see ourselves forever in His presence; we see ourselves ruling and reigning with Christ. We hold onto the Word of His promise, the hope that cannot disappoint—no matter the challenge, the cost, or the process, we endure.

Just as Jesus looked beyond the suffering and shame of the cross, we also look past current suffering. We don’t deny that there is pain and hardship, or that some days are downright evil. We are not running with our eyes closed; we are running with our eyes wide open to God's mercy. His compassion, kindness, and grace propel us forward and upward. His grace puts iron in our souls—not to harden our hearts, but to reinforce our resolve. The world can throw whatever it wants at us, but Jesus is the author and finisher of our faith.

So, we run with great expectation. We endure with eternal hope. We persist and endure because we have an inheritance stored up for us — an inheritance that will pay dividends for all eternity. It is secured in His presence; it is assured for our future. Whatever we have to endure for His sake, or give up for His sake, or give away for His sake, we count as nothing when we compare it to the eternal grace of our King.

You have the grace to endure; just look at the blood-stained cross and the empty grave, which speak of better things to come. I can hardly wait, but I will endure, not because I am strong but because He is faithful.

Verses to Pray and Meditate on:

For he raised us from the dead along with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ Jesus. So God can point to us in all future ages as examples of the incredible wealth of his grace and kindness toward us, as shown in all he has done for us who are united with Christ Jesus. God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God.
Ephesians 2:6-8 (NLT)

For we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and your love for all of God’s people, which come from your confident hope of what God has reserved for you in heaven. You have had this expectation ever since you first heard the truth of the Good News. This same Good News that came to you is going out all over the world. It is bearing fruit everywhere by changing lives, just as it changed your lives from the day you first heard and understood the truth about God’s wonderful grace.
Colossians 1:4-6 (NLT)

With all these things in mind, dear brothers and sisters, stand firm and keep a strong grip on the teaching we passed on to you both in person and by letter. Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal comfort and a wonderful hope, comfort you and strengthen you in every good thing you do and say.
2 Thessalonians 2:15-17 (NLT)

God the Father knew you and chose you long ago, and his Spirit has made you holy. As a result, you have obeyed him and have been cleansed by the blood of Jesus Christ. May God give you more and more grace and peace.  All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is by his great mercy that we have been born again, because God raised Jesus Christ from the dead. Now we live with great expectation, and we have a priceless inheritance—an inheritance that is kept in heaven for you, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay.
1 Peter 1:2-4 (NLT)
