Day 13 - Grace to Finish Well

14 Days of Prayer and Fasting
Grace to Finish Well
Saturday – Day 13

Thought for Today:

We start our journey with Jesus because of His grace, we continue our walk with Him because of grace, we endure because of grace, and when we finish well, it will be because of God’s grace.

There is great satisfaction in finishing what we started, and there is even greater satisfaction when we finish a task well. There is no such thing as a person without a purpose, a believer without a call, or a Christ follower without a job in the kingdom. Are you doing what God has called you to do? Are you faithful to the call God has placed on you? Do you know what work the Lord has assigned to you? If you don’t know, how will you know whether you have finished your assignment in the kingdom of God?

Finishing well means understanding what we are meant to do. We have grace based on the measure of Christ’s gift in us, and grace to help us complete it successfully. Paul not only wanted to finish his assignment but also knew what it was. God called Paul to preach the good news about God’s grace and sent him to the Gentiles. The reason we can read the New Testament is because the disciples faithfully carried out what God had called them to do. We are directly and indirectly affected by their obedience to the assignments Jesus gave them.

Many of the disciples gave their lives to proclaim the gospel; many early followers of Jesus were martyred for their faith. Yet, they remained faithful. They were stoned, they were sawed in two, they were fed to wild animals, they were thrown into pits, they were burned at the stake, they were crucified—and some even crucified upside down. They were beheaded; they were destitute and homeless. They suffered great losses of worldly possessions. They were despised, cursed, mocked, and ridiculed. Like prisoners on display, they were seen as fools at the end of the procession. They were condemned to die in the arena as sport. They became a spectacle for all who would watch and condemn. They went hungry and thirsty, lived in rags, and were brutally treated.

From the world's perspective, they were insignificant; from God’s perspective, the world was not worthy of them. They began in faith and finished in faith, all because they depended on God's grace to finish well. Finishing well means completing the assignments given by God, no matter how difficult those assignments may be. They did not see hardship as a sign of God’s absence; instead, they viewed hardship as part of preparing the fallow ground with the seeds of the Gospel of Christ. They were willing to lay down their lives for the sake of what the Father asked them to do.

Will you finish well? The answer to that question should not be: “I don’t know…” It should be a resounding, yes! Whatever the price, whatever the sacrifice, whatever the assignment, God’s grace is enough for me. Sufficient to start, sufficient to continue, sufficient to grow, sufficient to endure, and God’s grace is sufficient for me to complete the assignments He has given me. By His grace, I will finish well!

Verses to Pray and Meditate on:

Finally, they returned by ship to Antioch of Syria, where their journey had begun. The believers there had entrusted them to the grace of God to do the work they had now completed.
Acts 14:26 (NLT)

But my life is worth nothing to me unless I use it for finishing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus—the work of telling others the Good News about the wonderful grace of God.
Acts 20:24 (NLT)

I am fully convinced, my dear brothers and sisters, that you are full of goodness. You know these things so well you can teach each other all about them. Even so, I have been bold enough to write about some of these points, knowing that all you need is this reminder. For by God’s grace, I am a special messenger from Christ Jesus to you Gentiles. I bring you the Good News so that I might present you as an acceptable offering to God, made holy by the Holy Spirit.
Romans 15:14-16 (NLT)

Prayer Focus:
  • Ask the Lord to clearly reveal your assignment in the Kingdom.
  • Ask the Lord for an obedient heart to pursue what He has called you to do.
  • Ask Jesus for clarity of purpose and a servant’s heart to see it through.
  • Pray for an outpouring of His Spirit so His people will pursue their calling.
  • Pray for a willing heart and a humble, gracious attitude so we will do what the Lord has asked of us, regardless of whether a task is big or small.
  • Thank the Lord for choosing you and ask Him daily to reveal whom He wants you to serve.
  • Pray for a heart sensitive to the Holy Spirit's voice and aware of others' needs.
  • Thank the Lord that His Kingdom is advancing in the earth, and pray specifically for His kingdom to come, both in the Temecula Valley and wherever He sends you—whether just around the corner to your neighbor or across the world to another people group.
  • Ask the Lord for the provision to fulfill His vision for your life and for The Rock Church.
