Daniel Fast Day 15

DEEPLY ROOTED
The Greatest Secret Revealed

People love secrets. What we love even more are secrets revealed. We have television shows, YouTube channels, and podcasts that are dedicated to revealing secrets. Trade secrets, cooking secrets, secret aliens, and much more. We look for the secrets to living abundantly and the secrets to great relationships. We desire the secrets to a happy marriage or the secret to not kill your cheeky teenager (just kidding). Some search for the secret to making money on the stock market or the secret to real estate wealth. Others chase after secrets to staying forever young, although I don’t think this one is working too well. People pursue all of these secrets, only to discover that many of these things are simply a chasing after wind.

The greatest message was kept a secret from the very beginning of time. It was hidden by God for a specific time but has now been revealed to God’s people. Do you realize that your Heavenly Father has let you in on the greatest secret for living and the greatest secret to life? Do you know what that secret is? I am sure you do. “For ages and ages this message was kept secret from everyone, but now it has been explained to God's people. God did this because he wanted you Gentiles to understand his wonderful and glorious mystery. And the mystery is that Christ lives in you, and he is your hope of sharing in God's glory.” Colossians 1:26-27(CEV)

Paul tells us why this mystery, this secret was kept. It was kept so that we, who were outside of God’s covenants, could know and understand this wonderful and glorious mystery. God wanted us to know what the greatest mystery to this life and the next truly is. The secret to all of life is Christ in us! Christ living in us gives us the assurance and hope of the greater things in the future. Jesus Christ in us is the reason that life is worth living and death is no longer worth dreading. The question to ask is not “what” is the secret to life, but “Who” is the secret to life? We have the answer. True life can only be found in God’s secret that has been revealed and that is Jesus Christ. Nothing else is needed. Once we have Christ, we have absolutely everything we need to live this life in victory and we have everything we will ever need for all eternity. Jesus is not just enough, He is more than enough.

No wonder the enemy of our faith will do everything to obscure the very image of Christ. The world will scream as hard as it can that this is foolishness. All this, to distract us from where our true power lies. If the devil can obscure Christ and His cross from our view, he can limit our effectiveness and steal our joy. Remember, in Christ, we have freedom from the past, power for the present, and glory in the future! The devil has no future, so why would we entertain the lies of a world system that is doomed to failure? “The message of the cross is foolish to those who are headed for destruction! But we who are being saved know it is the very power of God.  As the Scriptures say, “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise and discard the intelligence of the intelligent.” So where does this leave the philosophers, the scholars, and the world’s brilliant debaters? God has made the wisdom of this world look foolish.”
1 Corinthians 1:18-20(NLT)

Worldly wisdom cannot comprehend Christ, neither can it reveal Christ. It is in the simplicity of proclaiming the message of Christ that Christ is revealed. God uses the foolishness of preaching to reveal Christ and to confound the wisdom of the world. We are saved by believing the message of Christ. “Since God in his wisdom saw to it that the world would never know him through human wisdom, he has used our foolish preaching to save those who believe.  It is foolish to the Jews, who ask for signs from heaven. And it is foolish to the Greeks, who seek human wisdom.  So when we preach that Christ was crucified, the Jews are offended and the Gentiles say it’s all nonsense.  But to those called by God to salvation, both Jews and Gentiles, Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God.  This foolish plan of God is wiser than the wisest of human plans, and God’s weakness is stronger than the greatest of human strength.” 1 Corinthians 1:21-25(NLT)

The simplicity of the message of Christ crucified is power and wisdom for us. God’s power is shown in Christ and God’s wisdom is revealed in Christ. We need both wisdom and power for living. In Jesus, we have the greatest secret revealed. Jesus enables us to make the right decisions and He gives us the power to endure. We have wisdom for the toughest decisions in life and power for the hardest situations. What is our secret? Christ Jesus is our secret. The world cannot comprehend it and refuses to believe it. They would rather chase everything and anything else, and call that being smart.  Yet God says, “their smart is my foolish”. “We want proof”, they yell! But God’s proof is found in Christ Jesus and in Him alone.

No matter how foolish it may seem, or how much the world may protest about the message of Christ, we cannot be silent with the message we have received. We must announce it and proclaim it as boldly and courageously as we can. As long as we have breath in our lungs, Jesus must be in our hearts and His Name be on our lips. Christ is the greatest secret revealed. He lives in those who have acknowledged and received Him as Lord and Savior of their lives. He lives in us. He has removed our sin with His grace. He has empowered us to live in any and all circumstances and He is our wisdom for choosing wisely on how to live. “We announce the message about Christ, and we use all our wisdom to warn and teach everyone, so all of Christ's followers will grow and become mature. This is why I work so hard and use the mighty power he gives me.” Colossians 1:28-29(CEV)

There is no greater message than the message of Christ crucified. There is no deeper revelation than Christ in us, the hope of glory. There is no higher knowledge or more excellent truth, than Christ Jesus our wisdom. There is no richer understanding, than Christ Jesus. We cannot grow to maturity until we understand “Who” lives in us! Maturity is found in our knowledge and understanding of Christ in us, the hope of glory. Do you desire to grow to maturity? If so, then stop focusing on the peripheral and start focusing on Christ. Apart from Jesus, we cannot know or find the life that God has planned for us. We must stop making life all about us and recognize as Christ followers it is all about Jesus. When we focus on Christ Jesus, we will be able to keep His priorities in place and have the power to live victoriously.

The knowledge of Christ is inexhaustible. The depth of Christ is unreachable. The wisdom of Christ is unfathomable. The power of Christ is incomprehensible. The glory of Christ is unimaginable and the love of Christ is irresistible. We have the greatest secret ever revealed. The mystery has now been made plain, “Christ in us the hope of glory…” Do you know the secret to life? I am sure you do now…

Prayer and Reflection:
  • Are there things in your life that you have allowed that obscure the message of Christ? If you haven’t identified them, ask the Holy Spirit to help you.
  • Allowing ourselves to be distracted from Christ is the greatest obstacle to spiritual growth. What can you do to keep your eyes fixed on Christ Jesus? How can you help others to do the same?
  • Maturity is found in knowing Christ better. What is your plan for knowing Christ better? Are you following it?
  • Are you willing to look foolish for the sake of Christ, so that the message of Christ can be made known to others?
  • Do you truly believe that Jesus is all you need? If you answer yes, then does your life reflect that Jesus is all you want?

Father, thank You that You have revealed to us the greatest secret and mystery of the ages! Christ in us, the hope of glory. Lord, help me and all my brothers and sisters in Christ not to be distracted by the loud voices of the world. Help us to keep Jesus at the very center of our lives. Help us to recognize that we have all the wisdom we need for making Godly decisions and all the power we need to get through any and all circumstances.

Jesus, You are my wisdom and my strength. I refuse to rely on my own smarts or my own ability. Show me where I have allowed life or the enemy of my faith, to obscure the truth of who You are. Lord Jesus, I am forever grateful that You gave me the secret for living in victory. Thank You Jesus that You live in me and that You forever will be my strength and wisdom.

All I desire is to know You more and grow in Your image and likeness. Make me more like You. I pray in Jesus Name, Amen!
